URBAN TRIANGLE is a preliminary spatial experiment that laid the groundwork for the bachelor thesis. Functioning as an initial phase of research and embodied exploration of Berlin, it documents the city’s collective memory. In this process,Otto Rohse’s Mappenwerk „Berliner Bezirke“ (1987) was used as an archaeological field map, a set of sheets that distill West Berlin districts through historical architecture, providing physical prompts for sketching and re-reading the contemporary city.

Across these exploratory visits, a recurring spatial pattern emerged: Berlin’s iconic street fountain (Straßenbrunnen) are frequently positioned at street corners, creating a small triangular void at the intersection of pedestrian flows. These voids become informal condensers for street furniture (kiosks, Imbiss stands, advertising columns etc.) producing micro-gathering spaces that quietly store social routines and everyday rituals.

In a city shaped by wartime destruction and reconstruction, these Urban Triangles persist as Aldo Rossi’s loci: fixed points that hold historical layers, invite social use, and stabilize the fragmented urban fabric (The Architecture of the City, 1966). Together with the surrounding objects and activities, these “Urban Triangles” operate as a readable unit of the Kiez - Berlin’s subjective, lived neighborhood scale.

The Architecture of the City, 1966).
